`Out Of The Blue` Exhibition at Lyme Regis from 16th to 24th July 2011

The Malthouse - Lyme Regis
Our resident artists Rita Sugden ne Richardson  and Lyn Marie Whiteman will be featuring their latest creations at the `Out Of The Blue` Exhibition at the Malthouse in Lyme Regis. Doors open from 10.00am until 5.30pm daily.

Rita lives in Lyme Regis where the light is a perfect source of inspiration for her wonderful creations. Added to this, the perfect detail in her work is coaxed through by the constant changing of the light and the stillness and movement of the water. Her work embraces many mediums which are oil and pastel, collage and pencil drawing. Her first love is working in oils. Her work is also exhibited in her gallery in Uplyme.

It's not just the artwork that Rita is renowned for....her other talent is making traditional crumbly fudge. Rita told us "I sold my shop three years ago to `retire`, but my recipe is selling well at County Shows!"

Rita will be having a table of fudge in the Malthouse during the exhibition. You will find it under her trade name Rose Cottage Fudge.

Lyn says "Her artwork is about space, freedom, expansion, light, colour and feeling"

Geoff Powell Exhibiting at the 22nd Summer Show 2011

See contempory works in a variety of media at the Atkinson Gallery.

West Country Galleries are pleased to announce that our resident artist Geoff Powell's work entitled "Geoffrey" has been accepted for exhibition at the Atkinson Gallery.

Geoffrey Powell started drawing and painting at the age of two and then, on and off, for thirty years. He started painting seriously at the age of thirty-three.  He is solely self taught which he believes has left him free of the expectations and limitations of a teacher.

"You see in a painting a reflection of your mind. It is a great mistake to interpret what the artist had in mind when he or she made the work" - quoted by Geoff Powell

The gallery is open Monday to Saturday 9.30am - 5.00pm and is closed Sundays.

West Country Galleries Welcomes On Board Artist Gordon Barker

Artist Gordon Barker

Gordon Barker was born in Gibraltar in 1960. He is a self taught artist whose work can be found in many private collections including prestigious commission for MTV Europe and The Gap. His distinctive and unique style has captured international recognition.

Gordon Barker paints landscapes, by the seaside, on a golf course, all intrinsically familiar yet are imagined settings. His work is packed with stark vivid colours with small daubs of paint that form people and balloons in the densely populated scape.

Last year Gordon completed his work on two pictures for the Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Gordon has recently been working hard putting together the text for 3 out of 4 books he has created.  By the beginning of July 2011, they will be on their way to his publisher.  We will let everyone know as soon as they are in print!

Gordon lives and works in Wollaston, Northamptonshire.
