SEEING FAIRIES

Our resident artist Ann Tocoda has recently produced these gorgeous Fairy Paintings to help raise funds for neonatal intensive care. Ann is also having them made into prints. We are extremely happy to tell you all that Ann will be putting these prints on to her gallery page real soon!

It has been a realy busy time for artist Ann Tocoda who has enjoyed every minute painting her fairy creations.  They are very special to Ann as her inspiration was taken by beautiful premature babes.

Jessica Fairy is inspired by baby Jessica who has brought so much love to her family. Jessica Fairy carries a heart...this is a secret message referring to the wonderful fundraising for neonatal that is being done in Jessica's name...she is a gift to her parents and her life has inspired many to fund raise in aid of equipment to give other premature babies the best possible care.

Ann told us that she painted Ella Bella Fairy in an enchanted world embarking on an enchanted journey, the little butterfly is her gardian and represents the love of her family that will be with her always throughout her life.

Arts Week at St James The Great, Dursley - Art Exhibition 2011

St James The Great Church, Dursley, Gloucs

St James The Great Church, Dursley staged for Arts Week 2011 and Art Exhibition and Sale in support of the James Hopkins Trust for Special Children and Dursley Parish Church.

This was the tenth Arts Week held at the church which featured some wonderful paintings by local artists.  Last year the church was unable to hold the event because the church was full, top to bottom, with scaffolding.  At this year's event visitors were able see some beautiful mosaics designed by artist Debra Stirling.

Mosaic by artist Debra Stirling

There were over sixty exhibits at this year's art exhibition.  There was a surprisingly large number of works in pastel, a medium that requires skill and experience to avoid a rather vague and furry result.

Featured at the exhibition was a stunning piece by Sheila West in acrylic medium. Two impressive paintings by Suzanne Robinson using mixed media. One of the most accomplished watercolours is by Gill Littleford with her lilies. Vicky Cox's piece entitled `White Stallion`which zooms in on a horse's head is a talent of a high calibre. Other well accomplished works of art were by Jean Dove entitled `Farmhouse Fayre` in pastels. Pixie McVicar's pastel entitled `Morning` which portrayed a haunting and subdued quality. To be included in stakes of high ranking are Beryl Lewis and Peter Lles with paintings entitled `White Horse` and Sunday Morn`.

Classed as best in the show is John Bramley, who displays a considerable mastery of watercolour in which he submitted three works.

Credit is also given to the small photography exhibition by the Dursley Training Unit Day Centre.  All the photographs are beautifully composed, sharp and meticulously presented.

It's In The Frame!

Cadremont Brochure - click this link.

'It's so refreshing to discover a framing company that only provides high quality service and materials, unlike the often disappointing cheap imports that all too many companies use. It's also rare to find a combination of great work, great prices and good old-fashioned one-to-one personal service. They have an easy to use website and it's simple to order online. Keep up the good work chaps!' – thanks Hilary

Sotheby’s To Sell Hascoe Family Collection of Important Czech Art --The Finest Collection of Czech Cubist Works Outside The Czech Republic--

LONDON, FRIDAY, 4 MARCH 2011 -- On Monday, 13 June 2011, Sotheby’s London will offer Czech Modernist paintings, sculpture and Cubist furniture from the outstanding  Hascoe  Collection  of  Czech  Modern  Art.  This collection is an extraordinary testimony to the vision of its creators, Norman and Suzanne Hascoe, who over the course of twenty-five years assembled what is now one of the most important private collections of Czech Modernist art, and the most exciting group of Czech works to come to the market in the last decade. Together, the works in the sale – nearly 200 lots – are estimated to realise in excess of £5 million.

The Hascoe Collection offers a remarkably complete survey of Czech painting and sculpture of the first half of the twentieth century. The core of this collection of paintings revolves around the leading figures of Czech Modernist painting: František Kupka, Bohumil Kubišta, František Foltýn, Emil Filla and other fellow Osma artists, such as Antonín Prochaszka and Josef Čapek, who were at the forefront of international Cubism.

Norman and Suzanne Hascoe are remembered for their buoyant, cheerful and energetic spirit, easily inspiring
friendships all over the world, and for  their shared dedication in their quest for objects of beauty and cultural
significance across a wide spectrum. Their discerning eye and passionate focus is reflected in their collection of Czech art, which was housed in a wonderful waterfront home in Greenwich, Connecticut, in America.

The sale will feature twenty works by František Kupka, including his tour de force of early abstraction, Movement, painted between 1913 and 1919 (estimate £500,000-700,000), pictured on the previous page. Movement is one of the finest examples of Kupka’s paintings from this key period in his artistic career. Although the stridently red central motif can perhaps be read as evoking a recumbent human form, Movement  is essentially what its title implies: a study of objects in dynamic shift.

"Abyss" work by Jude Freeman
The above featured artwork entitled "Abyss" is a beautiful contemporary piece by renowned artist Jude Freeman. It is composed of handmade tiles, raku pottery, vitreous glass and venetian glass smalti.

The Gallery at Birdwood House is an established exhibition space for artists to show their work within the community of Totnes and as a centre allowing the public free access to a selected range of artwork plus the chance to meet the artist.

Birdwood House, which is adjacent to the Market Square of Totnes High Street, is a Listed Building dating back to the late 16th century. Over the years it has been the scene of many changes from being a house built by one of the Totnes merchants to being The Commercial Hotel. At some point the upper floors were extended forward over the pavement to form the town's poultry market and this space is still used as part of the Totnes market scene.
