Always with a pencil and paper in hand, he could be found either sketching the animals on the farm or copying the many photos of his father in far flung corners of the world whilst he served in the Light Infantry. So it was a surprise to his family that upon leaving secondary school he chose not Art College, but to follow in his fathers and brothers footsteps and returned to England to enlist in the Army.
Perry served for seven years with the Royal Green Jackets where his design talent was quickly recognised by his colleagues and he was soon accepting commissions for fantasy illustrations, Regimental T-Shirt designs and the occasional family portraits.

Perry establish a small crafts company in Kent, which marketed a range of handmade gift ware items with a ‘folk’ bent; history and heritage being one of his great passions. It was whilst running this small company (Cantii Crafts), that Perry discovered a raw talent for sculpture. Wanting to increase his knowledge and with a hankering for the West Country, Perry returned to Somerset and enrolled in a full-time Diploma course at STRODE College to study Art and Design. During his final year he specialized in 3-Dimensional design and ceramics, receiving a distinction at his end of year show.

Since 2001, Perry has delivered short courses on sculpture for Somerset Adult Learning and Leisure, alongside workshops for the District Council, voluntary organisations and interested local community groups.
In February 2009, Perry opened his studio, dusted off his tools and started work as a full time sculptor.
Perry began his ‘Classical Collection’ which he exhibited with the ‘Army Arts Society’ and following six months of research, completed a set of limited edition historical statuettes.
Perry is constantly experimenting with new mediums and materials and is engaged in the creation of new exciting pieces.
Back in his studio, Perry was busy working on ceramics for wood-firing before Somerset Arts Week, which ran from 17th September to 2nd October at the Pylle Emporium Gallery, Pylle, Nr Shepton Mallet, Somerset, BA4 6TA.
