‘The Crocus Gallery has been Stitched Up!’
The Crocus Gallery’s new and exciting exhibition ‘Boxed, Tiled and Stitched Up’ will be launching on the 1st July 6pm-9pm and continuing until 16th July. This exhibition is the culmination of a year-long project in which the ‘Thursday Art Group’ has run workshops and created two and three dimensional artwork using a variety of media. The group exists to offer a safe space where people from local communities are encouraged to develop their creative talents in a mutually supportive environment and find a platform to exhibit their work.

For three years the ‘Thursday Art Group’ has been supported by local art galleries and is now joining The Crocus Gallery. The work varies from ceramic tiles with incised leaf designs, boxes of memories and large textile works with portraits drawn with thread and autumn inspired images that are all hand embroidered. The range of styles is complex with a mix of delicate and robust works that even surprised the members with the realisation of how creative they are.

We also have ‘Lenton Faces’ featured in the Second Gallery. This exhibition is based on local residents in the Lenton area and is very much about the community. It features photographic projections of old pictures sourced by residents of Nottingham. The gallery also encourages local people to come along and add their own information and pictures to the walls of the gallery. This exhibition is open from the 2nd to 16th July with a Launch Event on Friday 1st July, so come along and participate so that you can make your mark!
